Tee shot from a very elevated tee takes a club length off your choice of club, but be very careful with wind direction.

Established in 1903, the Haughton Course is Deeside Golf Club’s acclaimed 18-hole parkland course, set on the banks of the River Dee in the heart of Royal Deeside.
Framed by mature trees and beautiful Aberdeenshire scenery, the course features tree-lined fairways, carefully positioned bunkers, challenging greens and memorable views across the Dee Valley. Measuring approximately 6,400 yards from the black tees, it provides an enjoyable test for experienced golfers, while a choice of six tee positions ensures that players of different abilities can enjoy the course.

The Round
The round begins with a scenic par 3 overlooking the valley before moving through mature woodland and across the varied layout. The closing stretch brings Deeside’s striking clubhouse into view, culminating in a memorable final hole where golfers must negotiate the water before playing towards the 18th green.

4Burn runs diagonally across fairway, being easily driveable down the left side but not the right. Middle iron for second shot to a green that runs away from you at the back.
5Very difficult par 3 with one bunker guarding left side. Green is not very long on the left half, so don’t be too brave – aim for the right/centre of green.
6Par 5 with not too much trouble off the tee shot. Approach much harder to a long narrow green that throws the shots off on either side.
7Stroke Index 1, one of the hardest holes on the course, with a fade being the required tee shot. Leaves a long iron to an angled green raised at the back.
8Short par 4, with longer hitters cutting the corner with their tee shot. Leaves middle/short iron to a long narrow raised green with severe runoffs on both sides.
9Depending on conditions, longer hitters will go for the green with their tee shot. Most play iron off tee, leaving short iron to a very tightly guarded/bunkered green, with choice of iron being crucial.
10A good drive is called for, with fairway bunkers left and trees up the right with the pond far right. Having negotiated the drive, you are left with a long iron over a burn to a sloping green, with a par being a very great reward!
11A good par 4 with OB down the left and bunkers right and left. Leaves a middle iron to a 2 tier green which throws off both sides. Club choice is vital for second shot.
12Picturesque and tough par 3. Normally into the wind to a very long raised green with OB all down the left. With such a length of green, club choice is very difficult.
13Par 5 with OB on the right for the tee shot. Burn runs across fairway at dog leg, and is out of reach from back tees. Small narrow and heavily bunkered entrance to green calls for very straight approach shot.
14Lovely par 3 with OB over wall at green. Ditch runs across front of green, with a deep bunker waiting after that.
15Calls for a good straight drive down a fairway with large trees both sides. On second shot bottom of flag cannot be seen because of ridge, with a burn running across front of green. Try to be careful with pin placement.
16The hole is made difficult by a saddle running towards the front of the green. This saddle can throw the ball off to the bunker on the left of the green or towards out of bounds and river on the right. The long green is very receptive – a good, straight high tee shot is ideal – Easy!
17A driveable par 4 for long hitters but beware. The long narrow green is protected by bunkers and trees on the right and the left. Hitting the fairway with the tee shot makes the second shot a great deal easier. Be careful with the undulating green – three putts are easy.
18Very testing par 4 to finish with, requires a good straight drive leaving a long/medium iron to large green, which is well protected with bunkers, and a pond waiting short left for the not so fortunate. The ‘bale-out’ area on the right is protected by a burn running across the fairway. Most players find it long even off yellow tees.
